SANDSTONE BRICKS

DECORATIVE OBJECT OR FUNCTIONAL PRIVACY SCREEN?

In summer, people are again drawn to the home garden. Green lawn, shady trees and fragrant flowers are waiting for you here. But instead of relaxing, you have to take care of the overgrown hedge and are spied on by the neighbor through the chain-link fence. We have the solution and help you to make your garden your oasis of well-being. With our natural stone walls, high-maintenance hedges and nosy neighbors are a thing of the past.

Trends come and go - but the classic wall made of natural stone remains popular in German gardens. In general, rock gardens and similar design concepts have experienced an upswing in recent years. In addition to paving slabs and copings, our standard range also includes paving and masonry stone, which can be used in a variety of ways in gardening and landscaping.

What are bricks?

Bricks are stones with an uneven surface. These are either fracture rough or machine split. The bricks available from us are, for example, made of POSTAER SANDSTONE, which is a domestic natural product. Likewise, the topic of 'sustainability' plays a major role for us. Our sandstone is recyclable, can be delivered later and is an inexpensive and economical decision. Thanks to short transport routes, through extraction in our own region, the environment is also protected.

Available are our bricks in different dimensions, sizes and qualities. In addition, you can choose between sandstone with and without sawn joint surfaces. Thanks to its frost and weather resistance, sandstone bricks are particularly suitable for outdoor use.

Fields of application/use/benefits for the garden

Do you want it decorative or functional? Bricks made of natural stone can be used in many ways. As a visual and sound barrier, which also serves to delimit the property. At the same time, a sandstone wall can also protect against heat and provide shade. In addition, you can border their driveway and yard areas, as well as terraces and raised beds. There are no limits to your imagination. Due to the natural look and the different colors of our POSTAER SANDSTEINthe desired style of your garden will be perfectly complemented.

Considerations/tips for planning

Before you start to implement their individual design wishes, you should consider some important things in the planning.

Basically, you should see that their ideas fit the architecture of the house. It is also important that the design of the garden is coherent in itself, so that you can enjoy your project for a long time.

Even deciding whether it is a retaining wall or free-standing wall raises questions. How high may the respective wall be? How far must it be from the property line or can it be built directly on it? Do I need a building permit for this project?

In many federal states, a boundary wall must have a minimum height of 1.20m and may be a maximum of 1.80m high. Nevertheless, there are different regulations in each federal state. To be on the safe side, you should inform yourself about the state building regulations and the neighborhood law of your federal state. In addition, it is also worth taking a look at the development plan of the municipality in which you live.

Build drywall or with mortar?

Once you have decided on a style, there is still the question of the construction method. Should it be a dry stone wall or a more stable variant with mortar? Basically, both construction methods offer their advantages and disadvantages.

Dry stone wall

With a dry stone wall, the ecological factor is in the foreground. Since you do not use mortar, there are no additional materials and also costs. In addition, a dry stone wall provides an additional habitat. Reptiles and insects can nest there, and in turn provide a food base for birds and other mammals. In addition, you can plant a dry stone wall. Special plants attract butterflies and bees. Especially native plants and well-scented, such as lavender, ensure that soon many animals cavort in their garden and are thanks to their appearance a splash of color.

But be careful, such a wall is not entirely stable. Dry stone walls are best used to support the slope. For safety, they should fix the top base layer with mortar. In any case, do not let children play on such a wall, as there is a risk of injury.

Wall with mortar

Bricks, which are fixed with mortar, prove to be particularly stable. This method of construction is most often used for property boundaries. Built low, a wall of natural stones can also be used as a seat, which is both decorative and functional. Since sandstone is also a heat accumulator, you can sit outside with friends on a warm summer evening and not get chilled.

For such a building project, it is best to seek advice from a specialist or have it implemented by a specialist company. Here, especially the statics plays a supporting role. An unstable or poorly fastened wall made of natural stones represents a safety risk.

No matter what garden style - bricks made of sandstone are versatile and leave nothing to be desired. For example, with our POSTAER SANDSTONE you can create unique elements in your garden. Create a masterpiece stone by stone.

We will be happy to advise you on this!
