Sandstone bricks

A neatly laid out garden has a raised stone planter with young plants and shrubs. The planter made of light-colored dry stone and lined with mulch lends a natural charm. An orange-colored structure can be seen in the background.

We have the solution and can help you turn your garden into your oasis of well-being. With our sandstone walls, high-maintenance hedges and nosy neighbors are a thing of the past.

Trends come and go - but the classic wall made of sandstone or natural stone remains popular in German gardens. In general, rock gardens and similar design concepts have experienced an upswing in recent years. Our standard range includes paving slabs and copings as well as paving and wall stones, which can be used in a variety of ways in gardening and landscaping.

What are bricks?

Bricks are stones with an uneven surface. These are either rough or machine-split. The sandstone bricks available from us are, for example, made from POSTA SANDSTONEwhich is local Elbe sandstone from our quarries in Saxony. Sustainability also plays a major role for us. Our sandstone masonry blocks are recyclable, can be re-supplied and are a cost-effective and economical choice. Thanks to short transportation routes, due to extraction in our own region of Saxony, the environment is also protected.

Our sandstone bricks are available in various dimensions, sizes and qualities. You also have the choice between sandstone with and without sawn joint surfaces. Thanks to its frost and weather resistance, sandstone bricks are particularly suitable for outdoor use. Discover our variety of bricks.

Fields of application/use/benefits for the garden

Do you want it decorative or functional? Sandstone masonry blocks can be used in a variety of ways. As a sandstone wall for privacy and noise protection, which also serves to demarcate the property. At the same time, a sandstone wall can also protect against heat and provide shade. They can also be used to enclose driveways and courtyards, as well as terraces and raised beds. With sandstone, there are no limits to your imagination. Thanks to the natural look and the different colors of our POSTA SANDSTONE will perfectly complement the desired style of your garden.

Considerations/tips for planning

Before you start to implement their individual design wishes, you should consider some important things in the planning.

Basically, you should make sure that your ideas for wall stone match the architecture of the house. It is also important that the design of the garden is coherent so that you can enjoy your sandstone project for a long time.

Even the decision as to whether it is a retaining wall or a free-standing sandstone wall raises questions. How high can the wall be? How far must it be from the property boundary or can it be built directly on top of it? Do I need planning permission for this project?

In many federal states, a boundary wall must have a minimum height of 1.20m and may be a maximum of 1.80m high. Nevertheless, there are different regulations in each federal state. To be on the safe side, you should inform yourself about the state building regulations and the neighborhood law of your federal state. In addition, it is also worth taking a look at the development plan of the municipality in which you live.

Sandstone walls: building a dry stone wall or with mortar?

Once you have decided on a style, there is still the question of the construction method. Should it be a dry stone wall or a more stable variant with mortar? Basically, both construction methods offer their advantages and disadvantages.

Dry stone walls

With a dry stone wall, the ecological factor is paramount. As there is no need for mortar, there are no additional materials or costs. Furthermore, a sandstone dry stone wall provides an additional habitat. Reptiles and insects can nest there and in turn provide a food source for birds and other mammals.

You can also plant dry stone walls. Special plants in turn attract butterflies and bees. Native plants and fragrant plants in particular, such as lavender, ensure that many animals will soon be romping around in your garden and are a splash of color thanks to their appearance. The open structure of the wall supports the biotope in your garden.

If you opt for dry masonry bricks made of sandstone, you should look out for high-quality products such as dry masonry bricks made of Posta sandstone. These sandstone masonry blocks not only impress with their warm earthy tones, but also with their rough surface, which gives them a rustic and authentic look. The sandstone is also robust and durable, making it ideal for supporting slopes.

But be careful, such a wall is not entirely stable. Dry stone walls are best used to support the slope. For safety, they should fix the top base layer with mortar. In any case, do not let children play on such a wall, as there is a risk of injury.

Sanstone wall with mortar

Bricks that are fixed with mortar prove to be particularly stable. This construction method is mostly used for property boundaries. When built low, a wall made of natural stone can also be used as a seating area, which is both decorative and functional. As sandstone also stores heat, you can sit outside with friends on a warm summer evening and not get cold.

For such a construction project, it is best to seek advice from a specialist or have it implemented by a specialist company. The statics play a particularly important role here. An unstable or poorly secured wall made of natural stone poses a safety risk.

No matter what style of garden - sandstone walls are versatile and leave nothing to be desired. With our Posta sandstone wall stones, for example, you can create unique elements in your garden. Create a masterpiece stone by stone.

We will be happy to advise you on this!
